"Hi Andy
The main reason for writing is to give you some feedback from our Christmas Concert, which took place last Friday. Lynda and I sing in a ladies' choir 'Treble Clef', based in Weybridge, and, as you know, the small group that I direct planned to perform 'Shepherds Arise' and 'Poor Little Jesus'. Shepherds Arise took place about 20 minutes in and then about another 15 minutes later we sang Poor Little Jesus. Well, the reaction was quite amazing! A fairly rousing cheer was heard along with the applause after the first song - never before witnessed in my 15 years of singing with the choir. Surprisingly, given the feel and content of the song, following a moment of silence at the end, we received another cheer after Poor Little Jesus. And then after the concert, in the church (St James', Weybridge) I was approached by a couple of people who wanted to express their enthusiasm for both songs. But this did not compare to the numerous compliments we received once we were enjoying the mulled wine and mince pies in the church hall afterwards. Even the professional singer who had come to sing two solo spots was, as one might express it, GOBSMACKED by both pieces. Most expressed a preference for Poor Little Jesus but even so, wanted to make a distinction between the two songs as quite exceptional compared with the rest of the items performed throughout the whole concert. I even had a telephone call the following morning by one of the group, who had had a call from a friend and insisted she phone me to pass on his complimentary comments. My husband, Steve, said that the atmosphere during Poor Little Jesus was electric and you could hear a pin drop. It is quite a large church and it was completely full.
Anyway, all this is just to say 'Thank you' to you for inspiring us to go on and make this happen. We do something every year - always trying to find something different to create a contrast to what is being delivered by the rest of the evening. However, never before has there been such a fantastic reaction to us. It is one of those difficult things that is hard to quantify, but I am certain your influence and that of Maddy and the rest of the Carnival Band has played a huge part. So thank you once again for all your musicality and dedication to your work."
